Are You Approved to Fly That Aircraft?
Frequently, we hear unqualified pilots state that it’s OK for them to fly an aircraft if they have a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) on board or someone else is acting as Pilot in Command (PIC). This may not be correct and could void coverage. Most policies state that the aircraft may only be OPERATED by a current and appropriately rated pilot who is either named on the policy or one who meets the Open Pilot Warranty. This is different from policies that state the Pilot in Command must be an approved pilot or one who meets the Open Pilot Warranty. What does your policy say?
